I'll have to check out that report. Very interesting.

And Hamlet, speaking of "worlds within Facebook," did you know you can embed a Jibe world as a Facebook app? Example here: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=124597584291998

It's using the Facebook API and FacebookConnect for authentication.

Also, my own thoughts about why virtual worlds need to take advantage of Facebook can be summed up in a little story.

A struggling fisherman asked the wise and successful fisherman, "What is your secret to catching so many fish?"

He replied, "I fish where the fish live."

Ahh, now we know what all the fuss has been about all this past year.

I agree, Path! Though interesting, maybe we'll all soon be fishing in Google+ instead. :)

Virtual world's need to overcome the original idea they had that they were the ultimate form of the Internet via some kind of 'cyberspace' as imagined in 1980s SciFi.

In fact Virtual Worlds are too heavy and too complex for most people and most interactions with the World Wide Web. Imagine having to go to SL for get BBC news? Well the same is true of the Social Graph, why go to SL to contact friends you just want to IM with?

Virtual Reality technology may have a future as a feature of the web, either immersion or game playing.

It would be interesting to see if a Zynga like company develops something on SL platform that goes viral via FB. Still waiting for someone to pull off extending FB with SL the way Zynga did using Flash technology.
