So what did you do last weekend? I watched a movie, did some chores and stuff. Linden Lab CEO Rod Humble, by contrast, went to Los Angeles to party with a half dozen game gods and, oh yeah, James Gandolfini, Tom Hanks, Prince William, folks like that. That was for BAFTA's Brits to Watch gala, which included a couple awards for UK game developers, Charles Griffiths and Matt Turner. Sims and Spore creator Will Wright got a table and invited some game developer pals, who from left to right above were: Mr. Humble, Louis Castle (creator of the Command & Conquer franchise), the crazy tall David Perry (founder of Shiny Entertainment and more recently Gakai, the cloud streaming service Linden Lab recently tried out), Brenda Brathwaite (writer for Jagged Alliance, the best strategy game ever made), John Romero (who needs no intro), Will Wright, Tim Schaefer (Grim Fandango, Psychonauts), and Chris Hecker (developer of the upcoming, groundbreaking game Spy Party, which I hope to write about soon.)
"If Linden Lab CEOs were James Bond actors," I recently told a reporter, "Philip Rosedale is Sean Connery, Mark Kingdon is Roger Moore, and Rod Humble is Daniel Craig." Far as I'm concerned, here's proof of that.
