One thing that's really needed is a way to see the number of objects in a single folder. It would be easier to figure out what needs culling and what could be a realstic number of objects a person wants to have.

Especially with clothing that comes in multiple layers and in multiple colors and with multiple parts.

I like that idea, Beatrix. I'm not sure how SL's inventory management system is worse than anybody else's. The difference, I think, mostly has to do with the sheer number of items folks in SL have in their inventories. I'm not sure you could get anyone to accept a WoW style inventory system, though, Hamlet, with beginning players limited to a very small number of items...

It's always nice to see in picture form problems people have. I'd love to take a week and just redo the whole thing!

being able to see a graphic of clothing items like other virtual worlds do would be a great thing.

For that matter, I'd like to be able to rename no-mod items. A misspelling by the creator---and it does happen---can render an item invisible to the inventory search.

Thank you, Hamlet, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. For that matter, I wish there were a web app that would let me manipulate my inventory without the overhead of the whole SL client. Sure, you will want to look at things for detailed organization, but for the first stages, one could get along without it.

foneco zuzu

Organization or the lack of it cant be blamed to SL.

I have more then 35000 itens on my inventory!
I have only 4 folders besides default 1.

#Phoenix (bridge and Ao)

#RLV (Subfolders with all that a avatar can wear, from huds to hair, from horses to clothes)

#Rezz (subfolders with all i need to rezz in world, from bikes to sex beds)

#zuzu (devided in buys and frebies, where i put all i dont put on all the above)

g i make sure, rezz, adjust, pass to one of the folders

I am stunned you can be immersed in Second Life and also boycott the inventory, Hamlet. The asset server must really love you!

We regularly print articles in Prim Perfect on tidying up your inventory. Mine is a sad mess, I freely confess - I ought to be storing those magazine textures, and deleting most of those landmarks ...

But not to have an inventory at all ...

If ever you appear on Designing Worlds, I think I'll have to give you something that will really demand inventory use, like a breedable. Then you'll fully understand what the rest of us go through!

Melissa Yeuxdoux

I commend to your attention a JIRA entry that I created (https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7188), "Let users manipulate their inventory as if it were a networked file system, i.e via NFS or Samba". The current inventory system is a pain, and better we should be able to access and organize it via the file manipulation programs we already know by virtue of being computer users: Windows Explorer, Nautilus, Konqueror, Dolphin, Thunar, or whatever.

Great interesting.
