I love the SL fashion blog of Ms. Sid Rufus, and I'll tell you why: The compositions are stylish, gorgeously textured, and a touch surreal. (Why's this woman with a red balloon standing on the edge of a cliff that drops down into the sky? Because she can, that's why.) Just as important, Sid makes great use of depth of field, a relatively new feature to SL viewers that simulates the photographic effect when a lens focuses on a foreground subject. This helps make virtual photos seem more like real world photos, and is just a cool element to play with creatively. So far it seems like most SL fashion bloggers aren't leveraging it much, but I'd love to see that change. See more what Ms. Rufus does with depth of field here, and get inspired.

Beautiful work; thank you for publicizing it. Another fun thing to do is take a close-up portrait at night with shallow depth of field and point light sources in the background; the resulting bokeh is very nice.

Great choice!!!
I find depth of field frustrating to use in SL because it is so hard to control. Option-Clicking on what you want to be in focus works 70% of the time, but sometimes my viewer decides to ignore all my attempts to tell it what to bring into focus. A solution I have adopted is to shoot two pics, one with DOF selected and one with it deselected. I can put the one without DOF over the other and erase into the blurred effect I want.
p.s. Thanks for the hat tip.

Thank you so much! I am so happy you featured a post of mine. By the way, all my works were done by using photoshop because I have a really bad graphics card in which I can't even use the windlight settings. I get my background pictures through another computer which is at the internet shop or my friend's computer and then I take a picture of my avatar with a green background and just crop it, then voila! :D
Anyway, I feel really grateful and happy to know you posted this one. Once again, thank you so much!
