Ms. Strawberry Singh blogs about an incredibly useful device that every Second Life store owner should own for their business: a Social Network Display, a signboard that connects visitors to your store to your account/page/etc. in the largest social media channels. "I wish every content creator would have [this] in their store," says Strawberry, and I utterly agree: If a store visitor becomes a Twitter follower or fan of your Facebook page (for example), you're not only connecting to them, but in theory to all of their friends on those networks, and all of their friends, and ad infinitum. That's a face-punchingly powerful marketing and communication tool, especially compared to in-world SL groups, which are moribund by comparison. This particular one Strawberry is showing off here is just L$149, so sweet Jesus on a ninja assignment, just click here to get a copy already.

Wow, thank you for blogging this. :) I really hope more content creators get this in their stores. I love perusing through designer's blogs and instead of joining their inworld groups, I just now follow them on twitter or plurk so I know when they release new items. I've met and gotten to know so many wonderful people through social networking, I hope more people embrace it and start to use it more often. It really makes it easier for us shoppers and bloggers too! Thanks again Hamlet! :)

I made my own a few months back for Twitter, Plurk and blog (hate Facebook and won't be making one for that, at least not for myself) and was thinking of making them freebies. I'll add a few more networks to the set and put them on Marketplace later, if anyone wants them. Watch this space (or my blog) for the link.

We had one out over 12 months ago and believe it to be more customizable.

LOL, it might help (and inspire more confidence) if I got the url for my own blog right - corrected on this post. :-)

It's a really good way to engage with customers, and it's pretty easy to make your own as well. You just need the logos and a script with llLoadURL. Done!
If I still had my shop, I'd be all over that. :)

This "you should have in your store" comment is kinda wierd.
I would point out that the word "should" is patronizing and condescending because it means the speaker is convinced they know more about the topic than the person to whom they are giving thinly veiled orders.
As for this "you should..." not every store owner, even the big ones has a blog, or has the time or ability to blog.
Personally I used to have a Facebook account. I joined it when they were still in beta and in those days they didn't care what your name was. However as Hamlet has reported before, Facebook kicked off avatar accounts, including mine. They also chopped my business page at the same time because they cancelled my account. It would have been rather difficult to keep up the business page with a cancelled account, so I suppose I see their logic.
However, as understanding as I am about their corporate philosophy, I'm not going to put their name in my stores RL or SL. They can go hang.
My store has a website, online catalog and links to handy sites. We have a button you can push to load the URL in the store. I don't have, and won't have a blog, a twit, a twoot, a twinkle, a plurk or a kiosk advertising someone else's online "services."
This is just a ploy to add to their advertising revenue and get free advertising space in our shops.

"not every store owner, even the big ones has a blog, or has the time or ability to blog"
This particular Social Network panel has a Twitter option, which doesn't require a RL name, and most store owners have time to write 140 characters a few times a week. And yeah, the fact is a store owner who has no social media marketing strategy outside of SL is throwing away a giant opportunity to reach a much larger market. Especially since Linden Lab is devoting a lot of effort to integrate SL with the major social media channels.

In a one person business I hardly have enough time to do my business justice in just keeping up with good designs and have a break from that from time to time but not nearly what anyone would expect as far as "social network". Is someone volunteering to write blogs for me?
