The developers of Mobile Grid Client, a Second Life messaging system app for Android-based cell phones (Motorola Droid, Google Nexus One, etc.), report problems with connecting to SL through MetroPCS, a major mobile carrier. "Some users of Mobile Grid Client were reporting that they can’t login anymore via cell. We then tested if it’s just related to Mobile Grid Client. Two users tethered their phones with their PCs and tried to login to Second Life using the official viewer with no luck," they told me through Mobile Grid Client's Facebook page. "It was first observed about the 22nd of September."
I own neither an Android phone or a MetroPCS account, so I put the question to reader who do -- are you having a similar experience? Offhand, my guess is this isn't about Second Life per se, but mobile access to any data-rich, non-standard application. But if others report the same experience, I'll delve further.
I have an android through MetroPCS and I just logged in using Mobile Grid Client with my alt and sent my main av an IM inworld and received it. I'm not having any issues.
