Courtesy Louis Platini's Metaverse Business, a Second Life/OpenSim analytics company that gathers publicly accessible in-world data for its clients, here's the top 50 most popular sims in Second Life for September 2011, listed according their average visitor count, the unique visitor range at any given period, and the sim's rank the previous month, and once again, it raises the eternal question: Is there be any true bliss on Bukkake Bliss Island?
Franks Place, a classy jazz nightclub where men wear tuxes and women ballroom gowns, remains a top site amid the raw sexual and naked experiences that dominate this list (as they usually do.) When people are skeptical that SL can grow as large as IMVU, I always refer them to these rankings: A large portion of SLers are already chatting and flirting in a way not unlike IMVU (just more pornily.)
Another surprise: A relatively new entry to the top fifty is Gerontology Education (direct teleport here), where real world nursing students train with virtual patients.
See listings 26-50 after the break:
#7 (GOL) is an extremely popular techno/dance club. #10, Crossroads, is, if I'm not mistaken, another very popular social spot for blues music (sometimes live) and dancing. #20, Sweethearts, is essentially a Frank's Place competitor.
So yes, there is some NotSex happening.

Lum, you are right - Crossroads is a blues club with a biker theme. I used to DJ there back in the day.

I wish I could find the 1920s Berlin project on that site, but they say it doesn't work with sims that start with numbers in their name :(

A meat market with suits and ballgowns is still a meat market.

No other business enterprise helped so much internet like the porno industry, so for once lets face the fact that most of the World, really think as meat, sex is as important and necessary to breath and live.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against romance and/or naughty bits.
And I like jazz. I even like the eclectic mix of standards, blues, movie themes, bossa nova, and rat pack crooners that most "jazz" clubs play in lieu of actual jazz.
I'm just amused by the suggestion that a jazz club in the middle of a list of sex venues is some sort of outlier. The set dressing and social conventions are different, but I'll bet you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference from a transcript of IM traffic.
Although... okay, I'll grant you this much, there might be fewer typos at the jazz clubs. Maybe.

Good to see Krymov back in the top 50. A gorgeous sim with lots of romantic PG activities and events.

Sexy Nude Beach sim is not 2 of the 3 things mentioned in its name.
It is on a beach though.
I'm perpetually amazed at the popularity of the place. It gives none of what it purports, it appears to have never used traffic gaming, its got an ugly mall strapped onto the back end that nobody uses, it has no events, and it has no security.
All it has is the name and the 20L weekly fee for being in search.
Yet somehow that's all it takes...
