I'm slow to start blogging today, in great part because I was out last last night doing various GDC-related socializing, which included catching up with the lovely and talented Ms. Alice Taylor, CEO of MakieLab, the start-up which makes user-customizable 3D printed doll avatars which I blogged about last week. So I got to hold this one in my hands, and my total bias as a friend of Alice's aside, I was pretty impressed by the doll's high degree of expressiveness, and the feel of the doll itself, which despite its origin from a 3D printer, has a kind of porcelain or ivory texture. I also talked a touch with Sulka Haro, MakieLab's co-founder, and given his background as lead designer for Habbo Hotel, it's no surprise they're planning to possibly incorporate virtual world-type aspects into their service. But we'll find out from them soon-ish, I think.
