I love me some high contrast chiaroscuro photos, no matter what world they came from, so it's good that Ms. Cajsa Lilliehook has a helpful and detailed tutorial here for how to create them in SL. This image above, for instance, she took all in-camera, with no post-production finagling, just adjustments in the viewer. Click here to see how to she did just that.

FINALLY!
Under that tutorial, on the Projector, she mentions three settings:
*************************
FOV is Field of View and is basically how wide an angle the light projects.
Focus is how blurry the projected light is around the edges. With a positive number, the edge is hard, with a negative number it’s blurry.
Ambiance diffused the light, softening the shadows.

This is spotlighting. Something I've been long blabbering about the lack of in SL. And there it is. I HAD NO IDEA this was functional...
The traditional way to do a studio photo shooting with strong light effects is in a dark room with 3 lights of varying shades positioned in key locations.
Now I need to find the ideal 'dark as you can get it' windlight setting...
You've made my day with this post. I've been looking for a way to do this... How long has this been sitting there on that tab without me knowing...
