The London Olympics is opening today, and if all goes well, the broadcast may include a glimpse of Duran Duran's live stage act, which includes Second Life footage in the background.
So that's SL in the Olympics (maybe). Far as the Olympics in SL (sort of), there's at least two sites where that's going on:
- The London City sim has an Olympics-themed installation and events going on right now! (Image and link via Kara Trapdoor, who's thankfully back blogging about SL.)
- Click here to visit Duran Duran island, where Olympics-themed SL footage for the supergroup's Olympic show was staged, and more her-name-is-Rio-flavored sporting antics still seem be going on.
Know of more Olympics events happening in SL this weekend? Please post in Comments!
So many cuts and changes of POV that I couldn't say whether the SL footage showed up or not, darn it. Any residents attending who could say?

New London Village in TARDIS region also celebrated the Olympics today. I also suspect the Olympics of killing my club event tonight, ha ha!

I haven't seen any mention of Duran Duran at the Opening Ceremony. Turns out they were part of a parallel event at Hyde Park. and all I've found so far is some radio coverage.

A Google search for Duran Duran at the Olympics turned up some articles about the band playing a side show act at Hyde Park to a crowd of 50,000 people that, according to one article, the crowd took awhile to warm up to the band. The performance was broadcast on radio and I saw no mention of television coverage.
There was no mention of SL in any of the articles about the event.

They showed the SL video at Hyde Park when DD is playing "The Reflex". But unfortunately there is no professional recording of this song, like for some other parts of the show.
I only found a mobile cam from jjccccc, who create also the SL footage.
