Iris Ophelia's ongoing review of virtual world and MMO fashion
As far as Second Life fairs and expos go Vintage Fair is one of the youngest, though in its short lifespan it's already become one of my absolute favorite annual events. I fell in love with the fair last year when I wrote about it more than once, and in the time since then my feelings for it haven't diminished. There's clothing, poses, hairstyles, skins, furniture, and even a couple gorgeous vehicles, all for the old souls among us who are drawn to past decades (and even centuries) of fashion history. Even better, this year's fair has a strong showing of menswear, so anyone looking for the perfect Don Draper suit should absolutely make the trip before the fair ends on August 29th.
So which of my favorite finds from Vintage Fair helped me put together the Veronica Lake inspired shot above? Take a look:
- I started with the aptly named Veronica hairstyle from Wasabi Pills. I feel like I've been flogging this brand to death in the past few months, but as much as I wanted to avoid the repetition I just couldn't omit this gorgeous flowing style from my post.
- I layered deep red lips with cateye liner from Pekka over Lara Hurley's Claudia skin. I bought the skin in a pale, natural makeup so I would get more use out of it beyond this post, but the juicy red lipstick layer from Pekka makes it look far more classic.
- The dress I'm wearing is the Amour Dress from BCC. I love the lacy mantle detail in particular, and though I wish the underlying mesh was a little more detailed, it's an incredibly romantic little number regardless.
- Finally, I snagged a long-coveted accessory for Mad Men fans and fashionistas, the Gold Pen Necklace by Laville inspired by Joan Holloway's iconic pendulous pendant. An absolute must-have for fans of the series (here's my virtual take on the fan-favorite character), and the perfect way to add a little wink-and-nod to just about any outfit you like.
If you find the fair a little overwhelming, be sure to check out the event page on CHIC Management's blog, where they've posted a detailed map with SLurls and store listings! Vintage Fair is also a venue where many designers show off their Photoshop prowess with amazing thematic ads and posters. My favourites this year have been from Lost Angel Industries and oOo Studio, so be sure to swing by their shops to take a peek!
