Krafties, a pet-raising MMO based in Second Life, now has over 7,000 members in its official group. (I checked those stats in-world last night.) That's a pretty solid number for an SL-based game, but even more notable, the developers reported just 5,000 members last month; so we're talking lots of strong growth (or at least a lot of churn). As for the game itself, it combines the very popular category of virtual pet raising with a roleplaying and combat mechanic: Collect your Kraftie, collect items to make your Kratie more killer, then send it out to kick the crap out of other players' Krafties. (Sounds quite similar to Gaia Online's Monster Galaxy, which has about a million players.) Creatures are re-sellable by the owner, and as with most pet-raising games, the developers make Linden Dollars by selling power-ups. The game site comes with a leaderboard, which is a good way of boosting long-term play. Judging by the total online activity, my guess is that just a fraction of the 7,000+ Krafties players are regularly players. However, even if there just 1,000 hardcore Krafties, that would still be kind of cool.

I did try kraftie. Actually it reminded me a lot of pokemon :)
The main feature i liked about it was that its the game which can literally buy you profits without investing a single linden.
So for newbies who want ask about making lindens the theme these days is turning to..get your own kraftie !
It does look like that Krafties are here to stay and just not another pet bubble in second life.
