I recently wrote that Philip Rosedale's High Fidelity had created a way to connect Google Glass to an avatar, but didn't know they had posted the video of it in action too, but here it is, and you must watch:

Using an avatar as a proxy for communication has many benefits. Your avatar can always look good, be well lit and in an interesting location. However, even the most immersive virtual worlds fall flat when trying to deliver the emotional data from real world facial expressions and body language.

Fun fact totally unrelated to this: Before he co-founded High Fidelity, Ryan co-founded Philip's Coffee & Power start-up, and before that, was one of Linden Lab's very first employees, and before that, was a literal rockstar on Elton John's label. So in a manner of speaking, High Fidelity is Ryan's second life after Second Life, which was itself his second life.
