Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
It's the little things that make Vlad Sharktooth's portrait "Do I Wanna Know" stand out to me. The septum peircing, slightly askance, is one of them. The carefully smoothed expression, the myrrhiad of freckles, the whisker thin highlighting, and the fluffy detail of the avatars sweater are part of it too. But I think the thing that I love most about this shot is how very cold everything beyond her looks compared to how warm she herself seems. I know she's supposed to be a badass chick, smoking her cigarette and giving exactly zero fucks about anything, but there's still something strangely cozy about this sneering femme fatale.
I'll admit I hadn't seen much of Vlad's work before this, but he certainly has a new fan in me. Based on his Flickr, he specializes in very intense and polished close-up portraits of girls just as fierce as this one, and goddamn are some of them gorgeous. You can check them all out for yourself here.
