Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
Every now and then I find myself poring through Nexus Mods looking for that something special to plug in to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, one of my favorite games of all time. Two years after its release the modding scene for Skyrim is incredibly strong. With new mods added daily, it's important to check in and see what's new.
That said, my latest mod find isn't really something I have any interest in installing for myself. It's one of those curiosities of the internet, something you might have never have expected to cross paths with, least of all on a Skyrim modding site.
... And yet there it is: The Orthonian Race.
There are dozens of custom races you can insert into Skyrim, everything from extinct varieties of elves to dryads, naiads, and full-on demons (even Belgians, apparently). Beazalbob69's Orthonians manage to stand out from the crowd. You'll need to have a Nexus Mods account to see the original mod page, so in case you don't here are the key details from the description:
The Orthonian's are not a race they are a Sisterhood of mouth lovers and their goal is to bring "oral" worship to Skyrim. They are all orally obsessed and love sexy mouths and beautiful smiles. Their Amazing smiles are intoxicating and mesmerising. Neither Man nor Woman can resist their charms!
The Orthonian Race is a completly new and mostly standalone Race. They have brand new Racial Powers and Abilities. Their Powers focus on their mesmerising smiles and their beauty.
Racial powers and abilities are a core part of most fantasy games, and Skyrim is no exception. In the case of the Orthonians, their gleaming grins give their persuasive abilities a boost and also allow them to pacify their foes once a day for 5 minutes. My favorite of their abilities has to be "Orthonian Shine", which gives them a whopping 90% resistance to disease due to their impressive oral hygiene.
Now I wouldn't even know where to begin making a mod like this, so naturally I can appreciate the effort that was put into implementing the Orthonian Race mod... But it also has the distinction of being one of the strangest Skyrim mods I've ever seen. I'm not sure whether to tip my hat or raise my eyebrow.
The Orthonian Race certainly isn't my style, but that's just me. You can pick it up for yourself on the Skyrim Nexus.

You simply underestimate the power of good teeth, Iris. I don't play Skyrim, but if I did I'd pay a coder to make the Calvonians, a race that worships the power of baldheadedness. They'd deploy entire platoons on hills behind their main forces to blind enemies in combat with their shiny pates.
Then came a cloudy day for the final battle...oh oh.
Maybe I don't take my gaming seriously enough :)
