Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
It's certainly too early to proclaim Starbound my Game of the Year for 2014, but if the developers keep up their current pace of tweaking, balancing, adding new content, and incorporating the coolest community mods I can't imagine there will be that much competiton. The latest update comes with loads of seasonal items (pictured above) to keep your ship, base, or seasonal alien cottage feeling homey.
Not everything in this update is cosmetic, though. Skyrails, based on a popular mod, have been built into the game, as well as atmosphere restrictions on moons and asteroids, and there's even a new weather system that might bring you a white Space-Christmas, if you're lucky. The best gift of all in this update as far as I'm concerned is that poop monsters will no longer one-hit kill you... But you'll have to wait until my next Starbound adventure diary to find out why. (Spoilers: Poop monsters one-hit killed me. A bunch.)
There are loads more changes in last night's update though, so check them out for yourself in detail here.
