On Second Life's official community portal, Linden Lab's new, advice-inundated CEO Ebbe Altberg just introduced himself to SLers:
"I don’t really consider myself a ‘gamer,’ but I also don’t think that ‘game’ would describe Second Life either, and I’ve found Second Life intriguing for a long time. In addition to having personally explored the virtual world a bit back when it first started (of course I’m diving in more now), my son was a very active Resident as a teenager, and I’ve been consistently impressed by the incredible things the Second Life community creates. I’m proud to be joining the team that enables this level of creativity, and as I said in our press release, I’m committed to supporting our customers to help you become even more successful."
I got a chance to have a one-on-one chat with Ebbe just before he made this announcement, and will be posting highlights from it here very soon. Two sneak preview points for now:
- Ebbe is pronounced "eh-bay" and is a Swedish name -- because, as it happens, Ebbe is from Sweden, came to the US in the 80s, and still has a touch of Swedish accent.
- Last week I was fairly skeptical Ebbe Altberg was the right person to lead Linden Lab right now, but having talked with him, I'm decidedly more confident.
But again, much more soon.

Thanks for the update hamlet:-)looking forward to the reading the interview (@_@)
I have a strange feeling about this guy that he is the golden one who turns SL around and brings in an entire new way we interact with each other in SL in the future.

"Not a game" .. good start! He explored SL when it first started ? Curious if he still has his original AV and how old it is :)

The Polarization of Games OR Metaverse is obsolete meanwhile...
A cinema class gaming platform has stooped down to include metaverse in its game platform for one-time 20 Euros, no tiers... The question is when cartoon class Second Life catches up with the competition and its benchmarks.
Garry's Mod 13 is an integrated mashup of Gamification AND Metaverse all-in-one
The Killer Sentence in Wikipedia:
"Although Garry's Mod is usually considered to be a full game, it has no game objective and players can use the game's set of tools for any purpose whatsoever. Garry's Mod allows players to manipulate items, furniture and "props" – various objects that players can place in-game. Props can be selected from any installed Source engine game or from a community created collection."

New Boss same as the Old Boss. Instead of anonymously creating an account, logging in, and talking to average residents about what has gone on in the past and what is currently happening inworld , he is talking only to the 1%'rs, the land barons, and the SL media. Good thinking, Eb's. Cater to the narrow interests of the top 1%. He's as clueless as they all are. Typical.

@ Cathartes
You are spot on, I'll add to that a interview to a person who rarely logs into SL makes my eyebrow raise immediately.

Its pretty sad that I consider it a step up that he's publicists manage to find his own website to post that on...

I'm glad others have brought this up so I'm not the only one who noticed the manner in which this important introduction was delivered.
Ebbe Altberg should be talking to all residents.
Honestly, for what a nobody like me pays in membership and my $295.00 per month sim private costs would a generic email do not respond introduction be too much to ask?
This is LL "you people" moment and this "special group" is going to work out about as well as it did for Mitt Romney.

Some posts here does not make any sense to me!
But the one that would like to see a simple email saying, Hi I'm the new Ceo of LL and wish to make your journey in it a better one, that for sure will be lovely!
Cause the plain simple truth is:
Less then 1 pct of SL users read blogs or forums!
So i wonder who many will even know that there is a new LL Ceo!
Still, at least he is speaking, no matter if only with the 1pct, but he is!
