This. We need a contemporary inventory UI that simplifies playing dress-up (and an option to bypass it when we want to get complicated).

Being able to easily customize your avatar is HUGELY important. Second Life's outdated inventory and avatar customization are major barriers to wider adoption of the platform.
Pussycat Catnap commented on 'Linden Lab Unveils New Avatar Fitting Classifications for Second Life -- But Will They Work?'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf74053ef01a3fcef2de3970b2014-04-14T21:53:34Z2014-04-14T21:53:35ZPussycat Catnaphttp://profile.typepad.com/catnapkittywordpresscom"Why there's no corresponding tick boxes for consumers is odd."
It baffles me... I just guess they thought people would avoid mesh.

And some have. But others insist on it. So...
A filter would make both camps happy...

AND drive up sales for people both mesh and non-mesh...

So...

I got nothing. Back to square one on that.

And I've now seen these icons on some products, but I missed any method to search for things by or against them.
Why there's no corresponding tick boxes for consumers is odd.

As for whether this new initiative to help consumers find suitable clothing works, only time will tell, it's certainly a good idea but time will prove whether the executions hits the mark.
Pussycat Catnap commented on 'Linden Lab Unveils New Avatar Fitting Classifications for Second Life -- But Will They Work?'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf74053ef01a73da9c13e970d2014-04-14T19:59:42Z2014-04-14T19:59:45ZPussycat Catnaphttp://profile.typepad.com/catnapkittywordpresscomI'd also add that this looks like its a nonsolution to another issue: filtering MP search for or against mesh....
I'd also add that this looks like its a nonsolution to another issue: filtering MP search for or against mesh.

I think 90% of my searches on MP have exactly one word in the search bar: mesh.
- I search for that, and then filter down the categories...

I'd much prefer just having a 3-stage 'select' filter:

mesh only
anything
exclude mesh.

- This thing of there's looks like it addresses that in concept, but not in execution.

They're making a system to determine if my avatar is wearing mesh or not... and for full mesh avatars to have a filter tag for items made for them.
- These are non issues in my opinion.

The actual issue comes down to 'how do I tell if this item will fit my avatar?'
- the issue that was solved by the 'Standard Sizes' concept, and which the 'fitted mesh' technology has tried and not exactly managed to address.
I tried explaining meshes to a non-SLer and he said "they are ALL mesh, just different ones."

LL needs something like branding our older selves "Avatar 1.0" and "2.0" since, as I understand it, my gamer-geek friend is correct. We're all mesh.
