Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
If you're looking to get out an about this coming weekend, there're no shortage of events to attend. But with the start of a new month comes the start of two new fairs, both of which opened their doors today (and both of which I'm eager to scope out for myself).
The first of these two events should ring a bell, since it's become one of the most hotly anticipated annual shopping fairs in SL...
Of course I'm talking about Fantasy Faire, one of the largest events catering to SL users with a preference for slightly more creative and slightly less standard avatars. Fantasy Faire [SLURL] will be running until May 11th in support of Relay for Life, and is also one of the best fairs for virtual photographers and sightseers to attend thanks to its varied sim designs. If you want to see why, be sure to watch Draxtor Despres' brief teaser machinima embedded above.
Since it's only just opened I haven't had a chance to peruse everything that will be available yet, but I can say that the Henriette dress by Jackal Ennui of Lassitude & Ennui will be at the top of my shopping list. A modest design that's been immaculately executed in mesh -- I'd expect no less from Jackal.
Our second event is a complete newcomer, unlike Fantasy Faire, but that absolutely doesn't mean it's worth skipping...
Unlike Fantasy Faire, Justitia's Law Day and its attached vendor market [SLURL] are brand new, but with any luck they'll be successful enough to make an appearance again in the future. In case you're unfamiliar, the Justitia sim was established as a legal resource for Second Life users, often with a particular focus on IP law due to that particular subject's impact on SL itself. In addition to having exclusive items from several popular SL brands, The Law Day Festival will also be hosting a talk this Saturday May 3rd on the subject of voting rights.
So, will you be putting on your sharpest suit or your sharpest horns this weekend?
