Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
I have a confession. Whenever I set out to take pictures for a Second Life event like Hair Fair, I get absolutely overwhelmed by the amazing work that other bloggers and photographers are doing. To be entirely frank and only marginally self-deprecating, at the end of the day I'm a million times more interested in showing off what others have been doing than adding my own (comparatively worse) work onto the pile. Here's what I mean...
Oakley Foxtrot, wearing "Darcy" from Tableau Vivant
The pictures that Oakley takes for her blog are generally multi-frame, atmospheric masterpieces, and her Hair Fair images have been no exception. My favorite (shown above) mixes baroque high-fashion with loud-and-proud punk flair, and the result is an eye-catching set that brings out the best of the Tableau Vivant style shown.
Carolina Becker, wearing "Sue" and "Sopha" from Ohmai
Anya Ohmai's bird-themed styles are inspiring a lot of beautiful virtual photography. Waifish girls and layers of chiffon, floral prints and muted pastels. Carolina's pictures scratch all those sublime little itches, but her use of the ball-jointed Doll Coco mesh avatars take her pics to the next level.
Twig Aho, wearing "Callia" from Ohmai
Speaking of the cuteness that Ohmai's cuts are inspiring, Twig Aho's Hair Fair posts are the place to go if you're looking for something that will hit you right in the puppies-and-kitties center of the brain. You know, the cute cortex? I don't think I've ever encountered Twig's work before, but her snapshots just make me want to reach through the screen and pinch her digital cheeks.
Xanthe, wearing "Mary" from Ink
Lady Mary she is not, but I can't get over this unbelievably ornate image. The bustier, the eyepatch, the shoes, the bed, the unicorn, all gilded to hell and back. It's so over-the-top and decadent that the tousled and braided hairstyle almost seems like one of the simplest pieces of her outfit -- and it works phenomenally well. Xanthe's blog posts never fail to impress, but this time she gone above and beyond.
Nigel Riel, wearing "Blown Away" from Exile
I can't help it. This image might not be the most trendy or technically flawless one out there, but I just love it. I'm a sucker for good parody, and this absolutely qualifies. You'll absolutely want to visit the link to Nigel's blog, where he's paired this amazing piece of art with some utterly inspired text to match.
An honorable mention also goes out to Shayariel teardrop for her short clip of the light show built into one of the rave-worthy Hair Fair styles on offer from *X*plosion. Check it out in all its glory here, and of course don't forget to visit Hair Fair 2014 before it closes on July 27th!
