Click here to subscribe to try out new technology to convert your real world face onto your avatar, a technology that the folks at GameYourself are Alpha testing for Second Life right now:
"We are developing a face scanning technology for games that allows users to have their own face for their character," GameYourself's Balint Barlai tells me. "The mobile application we are developing works like this: after the user records a video of his face with his mobile phone, the application produces a 3D model that can be used in a game for one's character.
"We are still developing our first prototype and because we would like to test the first version with people who would like to have their own face for their Second Life avatar." I told Balint most SLers generally prefer to have an idealized avatar face (or one that's not even human) rather than use their own RL face, but I imagine many would find it fun at least for novelty value. If you do give it a try, share your experiences below. I've also invited Balint to answer any questions about the technology in Comments.

I am not going to put my own face on an avatar because it would frighten people. But can I put Eddi Haskell's face (Ken Osmond) when he was on the Leave it to Beaver Show on an avatar as Eddie Haskell? Now that could be fun!

This really blew my mind, the fact that me, an overfed, long-haired, weeping gnome should be the star of a Hollywood movie.

I would recommend looking into getting their eyes to be able to move like most SL avatars. Fixed gazes make them look more like a mask.
The technology behind it looks great, but the uncanny valley is heartless.

Wait, you want me to scan my face for a VR-World that is hapily cooperating with NSA? That's a joke, is it?
