Here's a fun, no frills walkthrough of Second Life shot in an inconspicuous shopping mall with nothing particularly dramatic happening -- but it's actually the latest example in the most prominent coverage SL is getting right now:
Why? Because it's shot and narrated by KPopp, a top YouTube gaming personality who has nearly half a million subscribers.* As Janine wrote last month, YouTube gaming personalities have become incredibly popular, with millions every day regularly watching other people play games on YouTube. (The very biggest of them is also the largest on YouTube overall: A dude named PewDiePie, whose YouTube channel has over 30,000,000 subscribers.) KPopp is just one of many YouTube personalities to shoot "Let's Play" videos in Second Life over recent months, though nearly all of them are basically extended (and not very funny) griefer montages. (Then, of course, there's Argyle Alligator.) All told, these videos have probably generated millions of views just this year.
(KPopp, by the way, says she plans to visit more places, so maybe readers can put some tips in the video's comment thread.

RUConsultingForSEOSpam seems to have left random characters in a comment above me.
But I did leave a long comment on the video. Probably too long for the youtube attention spam.
I should have just said "Lol you suxxors, SL rulez noob"...
But instead I offered up a list of things one could do that were not "reacting to the weird"...

of course, another video of a crap default avi, with junk default clothes, with 2003 default crap walk animation. Video taken on some noob sim, with a crap looking store, with extremely dated items. Do these people ever get off of noob island and actually find a nicely done sim, or some of the great mesh designed stores? nooo, just another video perpetuating that SL looks like crap.

Very funny video in my opinion. People always say "Second Life" is not a game it's a social platform. But yet, gamers are interested in Second Life. People should look at this as an opportunity to figure out how to make SL interesting for gamers. I am an old gamer and also thought SL would have gaming in it but soon fell for the creative functionality it offers. After all this time, socializing is not first on the list for me of why I like SL.

@Pussy Stephen Hawking takes your complaint about the valid video content... candy wrapping complaints about spam are false amd are not relevant.

"People should look at this as an opportunity to figure out how to make SL interesting for gamers."
They already are interested in SL. But the reason why they feel the need to revile it is because SL requires more than just raid armor to be elite. Plus elite status is not just what you wear in SL. SL has a lot of hurdles to jump. First is the UI which is on par with learning the US in Eve Online. The next is learning how to buy and set up a home. Then you need to create a good looking avatar. Sure you can buy one, but the real props come from making your own shape. Then you have to make connections, join groups, take part in and create activities. Then super elite status comes from actually creating sale items that other SL fans will buy.
You can imagine the frustration most of these gamers experience when they discover they don't have the skillz to make it past the UI. A great many of them can't hold regular conversations or they just don't want to.
What they really want is the service shown in that old film Logan's run called The Circuit. Or known today as group finder or raid finder.

I did a youtube search for second life, its a shame the really good machima stuff is so far down. its mostly griefer clips and a avatar giving birth to a prim baby up front.
