I think Maxis Match is the only reasonable way to go on The Sims 4. Using photorealistic textures is too jarring in a game that uses only smooth textures. There are people that don't really seem to care, and they think that using gritty photorealistic clothes and hairs with lots of gloss and separate strands of hair are nice because it's more realistic and for them that equals better... But I was always someone that used custom content that matches each generation's styles.
The thing is that It's down to personal preference really, and if these people dont care about maxis match values, and how their sims don't blend the environment they're in, we shouldn't be bothered by that, because they semmingly aren't.
