Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style
Speaking of the Second Life RPG scene, there's a brand new roleplay sim open that has me seriously tempted to bust out my best light and/or medium armor pieces and join in. December Larkham and a group of friends have recently opened up a Second Life roleplaying sim based around Redcliffe Village, a recurring location in the Dragon Age series.
What's Redcliffe Village? Here's a quick refresher to get you up to speed, whether you've played the games or not:
Redcliffe is in Ferelden (near the border with rival nation Orlais) and is among the first few places most wardens will visit while playing Dragon Age: Origins. Seeking the support of the arl of Redcliffe, players find him deathly ill and the village of Redcliffe itself under siege. In a game with branching paths and serious consequences for your mistakes, things can go very well or very poorly there. fast forward to Dragon Age: Inquisition, the game that's had me under its spell since it was released last November. Tucked away in the far north of the Hinterlands (the first large area that players unlock) Redcliffe is under siege again, in a sense. It's hosting a group of rebel mages looking to negotiate with the Inquisitor and, as ever, things can go downhill quite quickly.
Long story short, Redcliffe Village is an area with a rather dramatic history, and consequently it's an ideal setting for a Second Life RP sim. Scope Redcliffe Village [Teleport link] out for yourself this weekend -- maybe I'll even see you there.
