I'm still recovering from a semi-work/semi-vacation trip, so I haven't had a chance to check out the Second Life streaming service Bright Canopy, which launched earlier this week. However, Ciaran Laval has, and says "it does work rather well". I believe Ciaran is British, and if so, "rather well" translates into American English as "this totally kicks ass!", but maybe not.
Some SL Redditors have some mixed opinions, here's some:
"I've tried it and its pretty good... I don't know anything about the technicality of how it works but I could run it full graphics, max draw distance on my Alienware laptop with no lag, occasionally the picture would blur and then resolve when it was under stress."
"It´s not bad, but didn´t convince me to consider exchanging my very heavy laptop with something more decent to carry around."
"If someone from Bright Canopy reads this: You might be able to do yourselves a big favour with accepting paypal, especially with europeans, not everyone here has a credit card, and Frame only accepts those."
Tweeting at Bright Canopy so they're sure to read these reactions too!

Thanks for sharing what you're hearing from folks. We will be launching August 29th. After that, we will be looking at the wishlist and alternate payment methods is high on the list.

"It does work rather well" is a notch or two below "This totally kicks ass", "The dog's bollocks" would be mighty praise indeed, but it wasn't quite at that level.
I have a good broadband connection, so my experience is probably not a good barometer, but I was impressed with how well it worked.

I tested BrightCanopy in Beta on a new iMac in NYC with expanded bandwidth and was totally impressed. However, when I tried it using an 8 or 9 year old Mac in a rural area 100 miles from nyc, (where the service would be ideal to have) the user experience was terrible. Low resolution graphics, severe lag, constant warnings saying the server was thousands of miles away and other warnings making no sense. Saddly logging into SL using the Firestorm Viewer from same location on same older iMac was not ideal, but much better then using BrightCanopy. I hope service will be improved, I would love to be able to post an updated brighter review.

I had the same experience on the beta that Skate Moss had. I was logging in from rural East Texas and had a constantly fuzzy screen and warnings about how far away the servers were. I'm looking forward to trying it again and see if it's improved for me.
I recently tried Fire Storm on a Toshiba Win 8.1 tablet and it worked surprisingly well.
