First comes the press conference hype about VR, then comes press conference hype about VR within VR. Yes:
In A Virtual Press Event, AltspaceVR Announces Its Chat Room Coming To Samsung Gear VR
VR chat platform AltspaceVR today announced that it is opening support for the Samsung Gear VR, making it the first social chat experience on a mobile VR platform. But rather than gather reporters in person, AltspaceVR CEO Eric Romo presented to a room full of hovering robots representing journalists inside AltspaceVR itself.
As a social place for VR, Altspace is probably a close competitor to Project Sansar from Linden Lab. Which is somewhat ironic, because during the media hype over Second Life, tech companies would host "virtual press conferences" in SL all the time. (To little or no effect)
And to judge by TechCrunch's pics, the room doesn't look especially full -- more like under 10 reporters. But then again, that was pretty much the attendance of most SL-based press conferences.

When Facebook will launch Oculus it is possible each facebook user gets their own virtual Html5 webpage so they can look around with their headset or even upload 3d models. It is obvious for Facebook to do such a thing, how cute wouldn't it be to visit your facebook friend in their virtual house on Facebook of course while wearing your oculus headset.
Expecting facebook to launch a 500 US$ hardware device and then tell their customers to do whatever with it would not be sensible.
The ocean is filled with fish all wanting their share of a new market.
