LOL from Nalates Urriah, quoting an SL named Rhonda Huntress:
I have found that underneath it is a game.
It is an inventory management game where you sort and categorize items with increasing complexity while creators strive to develop new items that defy conventional categories.. Everyone has to play the game to some extent and the rest of the world is there to entice you to add more and more items to your inventory.
That sounds like a game that Hitler would be forced to play in Hell, but maybe that's just me. But the point is exactly right. Since SLers do treat inventory management like a game, and all that excess inventory taxes the company's servers and causes performance issues, Linden Lab should actually make it a game with goals and rewards:
For instance, win L$100 for every 1000 items deleted from inventory, and level up with every 5,000 items deleted, so people can compete to be an Inventory Management God.

Or perhaps Linden Lab could provide inventory management tools that do not look like they were created about 1994 and enable people to reduce their inventories effectively. According to people I've urged to join Second Life, the inventory was the single least user-friendly thing they identified.

Didst thou speaketh the unholy word...Delete? How can one win SL if one deletes? More is better than less, so Inventory must never decrease but always increase. That is the Tao of Inventory.
The Inventory is the Precious and it must be given due respect by adding new items to it on a regular basis.
But it would be nice to have better management tools for the Precious Inventory.

There would be scope for cheating on this if L$ were involved - just go out and get lots of bundles of freebies and then delete them and win L$1000 !

You could make it so that the inventory being deleted has to have been in your inventory for a minimum of 90 days...which would spoil the majority of new accounts from trying to game it.
