With nearly 200 of you voting, here's how interested NWN readers are in trying out Project Sansar in 2016:
So 65% of you are Very/Somewhat interested, while almost 1 in 4 are still on the fence, and only 1 in 10 absolutely not interested.
These results are more interesting to me than Project Sansar itself. For one thing, very few (if any?) Linden developers on Project Sansar are veterans from developing Second Life during its launch or peak period, so for all intents and purposes, there's little development continuity from one world to the next. For another, a previous survey suggests the overwhelming majority of NWN readers are not interested in buying an Oculus or Vive headset this year.
From what we know, Project Sansar is very much intended to be a VR-optimized virtual world. So putting those two survey results together, most folks are planning to try out Sansar through a standard display PC or smartphone, even if that's probably not the most optimal way of giving Sansar a fair shot.
Please share this post:
We're all interested in seeing if it will be a worthy replacement to SL.
If it is, we can start thinking about plans to either stick it out on a shrinking SL or moving up to Sansar.
If its not, we'll most likely ignore it as not relevant.
The question to be answered will be:
Is it a Virtual World, or just a VR?
And most o us have no plans to wear an octopus on our faces in order to be in a Virtual World. Tech can hype those things all they want - users simply don't wish to be in isolation tanks.

As for 'not the most optimal way of giving Sansar a fair shot' I spent first year or so (possibly more) on a laptop that couldn't even show 'shiny' in SL and didn't put me off. Points to the fact that there was more to it than graphics I suppose. Which is why I voted for yes, will try it out. Whether its worth sticking around is another matter. Personally, I still wouldn't shell out for a current vr diving helmet even if it was to watch the second coming vs Alien.
(To the labs credit, at the point that laptop finally died, it could show pretty much everything up to AL so whatever they did under the bonnet really has improved.)

Yes for sure when it is open to all, ill try Sansar, like i did tried a lot others.
But if Sansar means keeping the relationship with Linden LAb, tks but no tks.

I personally voted 25 times that I would see it but in reality will not.
Online surveys are so fun. :)

Thing is, not everyone can afford ridiculously expensive head monstrosities just to view a world they're not particularly interested in.
From what I've been able to gather (behind all the yawningly boring corporate jargonese) is that Sansar will be dull, restrictive and unattractive.
Even the few second video clip is absolutely nothing inspiring to me.
Instead of all but abandoning SL, they should be putting their money into fixing it, not going off on a tangent over creating something that few will bother with.
