When I first saw this amazing animated .gif by Winter Hendes, I thought it depicted his avatar in a darkened Second Life subway as a train flashed by:
Not exactly, he told me: "As before, using various projectors... but adding rotation scripts to some of them, and a strong Contrast WindLight to try and make the projectors pop." So he took his customized projectors (read about those here), and programmed them to rotate to incredibly dramatic effect. Speaking of dramatic:
I'd love love love to see more animated .gifs like this -- beautiful little mini-machinimas from Second Life, easy to enjoy and quickly share, especially in social media.

I shouldn't have to keep saying this, but performers in the SL dance entertainment community are putting out work on the leading edge of these developments every week. We wish you'd get out more ;)
