I love this new Flickr image from Goodie McCross, which started as a screenshot taken in Second Life, then after quite a bit of post-production, became a more moody and melancholic recreation of Jack Vettriano's famous painting "The Singing Butler". Click below to compare and contrast:
As a contemporary cultural icon, The Singing Butler has been compared to Grant Wood's American Gothic. Vettriano has described the painting as an "uplifting fantasy" and chose the subject after being complimented on his paintings of beaches. He added the servants to balance the composition. His work has been widely criticized by art critics, but is popular with the public. The Singing Butler has been criticized for its uneven finishing, inconsistent lighting and treatment of wind, and for the odd position of the dancers.
Maybe I'm biased but I think the virtual version has better lighting.
