Linden Lab Vet Compares Second Life to Westworld, Wins Internet

I'm hardly the first person to notice how HBO's Westworld sure seems like a mechanized virtual world, and Linden Lab veteran Yoz Grahame Tweeted the next inevitable step:

I liked Westworld, but if I wanted hours of watching tech debt and no automated QA destroy a virtual world, I’d go back to Linden Lab

The Tweet itself has has gone epic viral, and the conversation thread that follows is pretty interesting. Also, this update:

CORRECTION: One objection from a colleague who’s still there. Apparently both tech debt & automated QA is improved. I’m eager to hear more.

So maybe not as bad as out of control (but totally sexy!) robots killing customers, or for that matter, regular gray goo attacks. Oh, "tech debt", by the way, is this:

"A concept in programming that reflects the extra development work that arises when code that is easy to implement in the short run is used instead of applying the best overall solution"

I don't even want to think about how much tech debt the SL codebase has been collecting for the last thirteen years!
