Here's the results of our survey last week, asking SLers "How many regular Second Life users will become regular Sansar users this year -- and does that include you?" We received 219 replies, a relatively strong sample. On the plus side for Linden Lab, 55% said they expect to become an active Sansar user in 2017. I'm frankly pretty surprised, considering that there's no reported means to transfer a user's content (or virtual cash!) from one to world to another, that's impressive enthusiasm.
On the bad side, just 15% who expect user growth to exceed 100,000 active users by the end of this year (whether they want to join or not). That's tiny compared to other VR apps which earn many hundreds of thousands or even a million or so users a year. On the other hand, maybe that's a hopeful prediction rather than a realistic one: The hope, in other words, that longtime virtual world users will get to pioneer through a new and empty space before the full commercialism kicks in.
