"What I Like" is a regular series of blog posts from Cajsa Lilliehook showcasing excellent Second Life images created by Flickr's large creative community built around sharing them. Cajsa often tips me on rising or unappreciated SL artists, and as you can see in her analysis of Whiskey Monday's latest work, she brings a deep knowledge of art history and theory to her selections of great images which transcend their medium -- and can explain why they're great. For instance, here's what she writes about this image by Coqueta Georgia:
El ático by Coqueta Georgia is artfully composed. She is placed so her face centers by the rule of thirds and her eyes by the rule of fifths. The bird looks at her, the flowers that frame the picture orient toward her on both the left and right. The red of the flowers are repeated in her lips. The yellow beak and black feathers of the bird are repeated in the yellow centers and dark leaves of the flowers. This is a beautifully composed photo.
"What Makes A Great Second Life Image?"
Unsurprisingly the same things that make for good art in other mediums. It doesn't matter if the tools are chisels, paint brushes, black and white film from the mid 20th century or something purely digital. The same principles apply today as they did for Rembrandt or Picasso back to the first cave paintings.
