Pretty nifty way to include a "Friend Me" feature in a virtual world -- High Fidelity users add each other to their connections lists when their avatars literally shake hands.
Well, almost literally -- their digital hands keep reaching out and pushing into each other but. Never. Quite. Fully. Connect. (There's a metaphor in there somewhere!) Anyway, as HiFi founder Philip Rosedale mentions, this is how Metaverse users in Snowcrash also connected:
The social ritual of the VR handshake is now an exchange of contact info, like in Snow Crash. In beta, come try - https://t.co/o10wfnxwM1 https://t.co/KFzemQAJK3

... Though on a quick scan of Neal Stephenson's classic novel's text, I can't quite find that passage. I did find this one, which actually suggests the opposite:
When Y.T. comes in, Ng stands up and bows. This is how hardcore Street wackos greet each other. They don't like to shake hands because you can't actually feel the contact and it reminds you that you're not even really there.
Which like I said, there's a metaphor there! Anyone remember where the handshake feature is mentioned in Snow Crash?
