In case you couldn't attend in avatar form, here's David Brin speaking about the future from within the virtual world of Second Life. (In other words, someone who's written a lot about VR over the last few decades now actually in VR to talk about what he's been talking about for years.) He's joined by other speakers who I'm sure are marvelous, but Brin himself starts speak at around 1 hour and 32 minutes in.
Video courtesy even co-host Giulio Prisco, who argues this on his blog post of the event:
Perhaps you think that Second Life is yesterday’s news, but make no mistake: the next wave of VR-enabled virtual worlds inspired by Second Life is tomorrow’s news.
Expanding into space and protecting our planet are linked goals, which can be achieved by aggressively developing emerging technologies like advanced materials and molecular nanotechnology. New methods for social cooperation, such as virtual worlds and blockchain-based decentralized organizations, have an important role to play.
That's all well and good, Giulio baby, but maybe the next lecture could be recorded with a computer that doesn't ironically make Second Life look like it did in 2007? I say this with love (and snark)!
THANKS for the suggestion! You can send me the money for a new computer anytime!
My computer isn't that bad, but running SL with high quality graphics AND a good local screen recorder would be too much strain, and the result would be that some slides would take too long to rez. Therefore, when recording talks with slide presentations, I set the graphics quality to low.

I find Xsplit broadcaster to be pretty good for recording SL.
I agree with Giulio on the changing slides taking too long to rez though, the higher your graphic settings the longer they take to rez, a better graphics card would definitely help there but it's still a challenge.

Maybe a Fundme campaign for VR video recording equipment is in order. 😉

Maybe they could have a whip round at the Turing Church (vision thingie : "We will go to the stars and find Gods, build Gods, become Gods, and resurrect the dead from the past with advanced science, space-time engineering and “time magic.” So must be a few bob floating around cos dieties tend to charge, possibly bchainones... Time magic sounds fun though - is that another Dr Who xmas special spoiler?)

One alternative is to just record the audio and merge that with the slide presentations. Most people aren't really interested in the in-world aspect, especially as it's just a recreation of a real world conference and doesn't add much to what the presenters are saying.

@sirhc deSantis - it's a special spoiler from the far future!

Yes, but syncing the audio to the slides would take more work than recording the SL stream.
