UPDATE, 1:30PM: Thanks to everyone who joined! The Welcome Center packed in 40 avatars (including one giant-ass spider), many of whom were driving around in vehicles while a live DJ streamed music.
“Low client lag," reports Sinespace's Adam Frisby, "and the backend server didn't break 0% usage. Didn't even rounding error to 1%. Bandwidth use was very low; everything looked to be behaving. I suspect we could have very comfortably handled 200 users at today’s numbers.” Next time goals!
Sinespace, the upcoming Unity 3D-based virtual world from Second Life pioneers (a proud NWN media partner!), is conducting a fun stress test at Noon today PST: We're going to try and fit as many avatars in the Welcome Center as possible without the region crashing. The Sinespace team has successfully put 300 NPC avatars in a contiguous region without breaking anything, but the real challenge is seeing how many human-controlled avatars can be together.
Go here to download the Sinespace client for Mac, PC, or Linux, create a free account, and log in at Noon SLT/PST today. The Welcome Center is the default location for new users, so you'll wind up right in the middle of the action. I'll be updating this post and my social media channels as we find out how many avatars can be crammed and piled into the same place without the place tumbling down around us.
>Updates coming soon!
We've already got a bit of a crowd forming!
Just a quick note, you will need to use a desktop client for todays test - there's simply too many avs for our web client to handle properly, we've got them availible for Mac/Windows & Linux on the download page Hamlet linked above. :)
Look forward to seeing some folks inworld!
