Here's the latest machinima from Splinter Smirnov and Chris Mumblewood, masters of weird, pop eye SL machinima, which plays like David Lynch's version of a Second Life commercial if Second Life was called Better Life and it was made in the 80s. So, yeah.
Unsurprisingly, Splinter tell me Lynch's Twin Peaks is an inspiration for their machinima, along with other odd-creepy gems like Tales of the Unexpected and a UK show called Jubilee Terrace. The bug-eyed avatars, however, are inspired by themselves:
"The pop-eyed look comes from our Second Life avatars really," Splinter says, "it just worked for the videos and gives them their own unique stamp. We find realistic looking mesh and bento heads a little boring so we like to play around making freaky looking funny ones.
"The ideas for the videos normally start out small, usually we think of something that would be fun to build, film and edit, then the rest of the characters and stories are built around that one idea. It's like a ripple effect in water. We always say the videos basically create themselves once we start working on them, most of the content changes during production and ends up different to what we had initially planned."
Much more of Splinter Smirnov and Chris Mumblewood's deranged creativity here.
What a creative video! Great cinematic sense, good efects and I love the avatars :)
