Here's a handy link for tracking the nine top social VR apps on Steam, which are now Sansar's leading competitors. We checked these figures late July, and the results were about the same: Total daily active users for each VR application in the low three figures or low to high two figures. (That includes High Fidelity.) Yes, this chart is only tracking social VR apps launched through Steam, but even if we assumed total usage is 10x these figures, they'd still be tiny. But the real concern is lack of measurable growth:
Surely tens of thousands of Vive and Oculus Rift rigs have been sold in the last couple months; for whatever reason, however, these new owners aren't jumping into the most well known social VR apps. The potential exception might be Rec Room, which is the most game-like of them all:
Welcome to Rec Room, the virtual reality social club where you play active games with friends from all around the world. Customize your appearance, then party up to play multiplayer games like Paintball, 3D Charades, Disc Golf, and even four player co-op adventures! Or just hang out in The Lounge (free membership required).
