Blazin Aubret and Charlotte Bartlett triumphant at the final tally
When we last checked in on the Going to the Max event in Second Life, put together within a week or two to benefit Maxwell Graf, the much-loved and admired 3D artist in Second Life who was just evicted from his home in real life along with his family, the community had raised almost L$250,000, and was hoping to reach the target goal of L$500,000 when the event ended today. At the end, they wound up collecting somewhat more than that:
Over L$1 million - i.e., about USD$4065 when sold on the open market.
For Charlotte Bartlett and the other lead organizers, it's much more than they had expected when they first announced the event a short time ago:
"Firstly, when Blazin Aubret, Sophia Harlow and I started to put this together, we just had the thought -- whatever we can do will help," as Ms. Bartlett puts it. "We were in total awe at the creators who literally within hours were knocking down our doors to help. We did the calculation last night as creators started to report the totals that we got past the L$1,000,000 mark and all we could think of [is what this] means: Safety for Max and his darling family to get a short term solution to have the time to plan for what comes next. Max is loved by so many people here, he has helped so many himself. This was for Max, and our hearts across SL are with him right now."
As for Max, he's still on the real life for road, about to move into his new home. And while Going to the Max is over, you can always go directly to Max's SL Marketplace page to buy some of his beautifully wrought items from the web.
