Virtual world godfather Richard Bartle is making an appearance in a virtual world tomorrow (Thursday) at 11:30am SLT/Pacific time -- specifically in Sinespace, the upcoming Unity 3D-based MMO from SL pioneers (a proud NWN media sponsor!), as part of Sinespace's Delphi Talks series of discussions with influential people like Richard.
"I'll be discussing whatever [the audience] wants to discuss, but probably MMOs and story will play a part," Richard tells me. "I'll be taking the view that games are machines for generating stories, and MMOs (and virtual worlds in general) are better than most games as they cover more dimensions." Richard pioneered the four gamer types of MMOs (above), and unsurprisingly, has a lot to say about contemporary online worlds: "The current trends in MMOs that are most on my mind are the insidious corruption of pay-to-win balanced with the promise of genuine innovation in the MMO sphere as WoW stagnates."
If you already have the Sinespace client installed, just click "Explore" and at the top of the list go to "Delphi Talks", or you can access it via the Delphi Talks site, a Sinespace project to bring renowned figures from the arts into the virtual world.
