I mean, just click and watch if you don't believe me. Created in the Unreal Engine. Keep watching long enough and you might convince yourself that this actually looks plausibly human. Keep staring, and you'll start to believe ultra-realistic avatars are preferable to non-photorealistic but emotionally evocative ones. (Like, say, those created by a Pixar artist.) Invest millions in the platform to make them, and you might come to embrace technical solutions to what are actually artistic problems. Mainly because you've already spent so much money on them.
Compare and contrast the creep-out factor with the "Meet Mike" demo from last Summer:
A more useful comparison would be ultra-realistic avatars alongside a cartoon/abstracted version of the same underlying model. I bet most people would still find the latter more appealing.
Actor’s days are numbered, at least the 'multi-million dollar per movie' actors.

"at least the 'multi-million dollar per movie' actors."
Or maybe more likely, background actors (extras) and even some bit part roles. We probably still want to see Ryan Gosling or whoever as the star, but don't give a shit if most the people in the background of his scenes are actually avatars.
