How tiresome is my constant criticism of virtual reality overhype on New World Notes?
— Wagner James Au (@slhamlet) October 16, 2017
Curious what NWN readers think. Every time some big VR news story breaks with any amount of "VR is the future!!1!1" verbiage, I can feel my fingers twitching to be snarky. But then I wonder how much criticism of overhype is overkill. For the record, here's all my VR coverage and here's last week's posts, divided between positive/neutral and negative:
Positive/neutral:
- Is Philip Rosedale’s “Rig” The Key To Create Truly Immersive Virtual Reality?
- Philip Rosedale On Facebook's Goal Of 1 Billion VR Users: That'll Require 50 Million Servers, "And Not Even Facebook Is Going To Run 50 Million Servers" UPDATE: Philip Explains Who Will
- Decentraland, The Ethereum-Funded VR World, Shifts To Become Web-Based
Negative:
Don't change. Do what you feel. I, for one, enjoy all your critiques as you open my eyes to another side of things, not just the "everybody join join join love love love VR!" hype.

When criticism tries to be informed and objective, it's welcomed. In that case I agree with mac, as it gives a better view of the whole picture.

You are very fascinated and critic at the same time. It's a great mix. Keep the attitude. Only time will tell who is ultimately right...

Keep writing the articles. I think they're fine as they are. A balance to hyped up VR elsewhere.
