Stevie Davros' Custom Skies are now in the SL Marketplace. I blogged about them earlier this month, and they're finally available for anyone who wants fantastic Second Life skies. Davros is a RL photographer and artist, and his skies are either hand-painted by him, or derived from photos he's taken in real life:
"My [personal] favorites are actually the clouds most resembling real life and the fractal nature of storm clouds and wispy cirrus clouds. Amongst the fantasy clouds I have developed, I do like the stormy sky clouds when set to a nice sunset, it is a striking look. This [depicted above] was the first cloud texture file I worked on, as I was seeking a more dramatic skyscape for my sim photography in fantasy sims. In real life, I have been underneath dramatic thunderstorm clouds on a high plateau where the cloud base was within a few hundred meters - that makes for a dramatic sky alright - but one extremely hard to recreate in SL as the user has no control over the cloud base height."
Installation tutorial video after the break:
Here's some cloud photos he's taken in real life, which have been integrated into his SL cloud sets:
"Portions of this one added to my Cirrus clouds texture." And pictured below, "Portions of this image in my dark-light clouds":
"Here are a bunch I took in a town I used to live in. I have had over 8 million views of my photos on Flickr."
As discussed in the first NWN post on his clouds, these custom sets are pre-loaded into the viewer, so Davros says they don't impact a user's Second Life performance -- and because only the user with Davros' Firestorm feature can see these skies at all, they're ideal for SL photography and machinima.
