YouTube vlogger Strawberry Singh has an important post for the thousands of folks who enjoy SLers on YouTube:
On Tuesday, January 16th YouTube announced that they were making some changes to their Partner Program. On February 20th, 2018 channels with fewer than 1,000 subs or 4,000 watch hours within the last 12 months, will no longer be able to earn money on YouTube. Not only will they not be able to earn money, but they may also lose access to other features such as end screens, etc… This will of course affect thousands of smaller YouTube content creators across the world, including our own Second Life vloggers.
She's leading a drive to encourage everyone to subscribe to dedicated SL YouTubers who don't yet meet that threshold. Here's just some of her recommendations:
"It would be so hard for me to just pick a few as I don't want to seem like I'm playing favorites but I'll be honest," Strawberry tells me, "I am absolutely shocked that the residents that are regularly releasing good quality content on youtube have not already reached this threshold. Isabelle Cheren [above] comes to mind. Her voice is beautiful and her videos are just so well produced that I cannot believe she doesn't have over 1000 subscribers."
"Or Alicia Chenaux who I believe is one of the top SL fashion vloggers on Youtube. She has over 1000 subscribers but she hasn't reached the 4000 watch hours, which I am so surprised about! Even though she doesn't monetize, she may lose some of the features that go along with being a part of the Partner Program."
"And just to pick one more that I think definitely deserves more attention is Oema Resident because her focus is on Art in Second Life and her videos are so beautiful. I hope more people see her videos!"
Agreed. So start clicking these videos and hitting the Subscribe button -- and recommend others in Comments. Here's several more I like below:
Huckleberry Hax creates gorgeous machinima and SL travelogue "post cards".
Tutsy NAvArAthnA creates some of the very best Second Life machinima ever made.
Luca makes Second Life promotional videos that are as good as anything Linden Lab itself makes, if not better.
Please post more channel links and descriptions in Comments. (Yes, self-promotion is not only expected, but encouraged.)
I am one as well and I would love the support: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC9o6kmKiTgs3cFdWVRiD0hQ

If you do reach the 1000 subs but not the watch hours, make sure you're looking in the right place in your YouTube creator studio. Under Analytics, go to Watch Time and then change the date range. By default, it's set to last 28 days. You're looking for the last 365 days. I did NOT realize this and thought I had a lot less watch hours than I do!

Thank you for mentioning me. I’ve been looking at channels and subscribing.
Want to know the fun part of this? Discovering so many channels I never knew existed. I’m also making sure for the next month I’m going to watch many of them on my bus journeys as that’s my You Tube time each day after I write my blog.

While the YouTube changes are not great I agree with Isabelle that the best part for me, has been discovering SO MANY new SL channels I had never heard of and seen. I have really enjoyed subscribing to lots of people and watching new content! And now...here is my shameless plug for my own channel... :-D https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG6YE4Ub6kFTMp9h841K0cw

Yall swimming against the corporate tide controlled by the lawyer-ed-up greedy.
When are you going to get real?
