Here's Adeon Writer walking you step by step through the process of creating a mirror effect in Second Life -- or if you're a gamer, a Portal-like effect.
"I've always had a sort of obsession with mirrors and portals in game environments, I like the idea of non-euclidean spaces in games," Adeon tells me. "You can guess, correctly, that I'm a big fan of Valve's Portal for this reason. And although you can't do anything like that in Second Life, I've always had a fancy for trying to fake it."
Speaking of which, as you probably guessed, Adeon also built a working portal gun in Second Life a few years ago:
Details on how he built the SL Portal gun here. And no, while you might assume otherwise, Adeon doesn't himself work in the game industry IRL:
"I've made very minor contributions to the SL Viewer, and that's about it," he says. "I have only been a software programmer for boring non-game stuff. While I love the idea of getting into game development, I don't have the artistic talent for the art side, the innovative talent for the gameplay side, the creative talent for the story side, nor the musical talent for the audio side. (It takes many different kinds of skills to make a good videogame singlehandedly. Indie game developers are my heroes.)"
I actually kinda think many indie game devs would want to hire a clever hack creator like Adeon.
Via /SecondLife.
That is so neat :)
(Never played the game so had to look up the reference)
