It's may not be a killer app for VR but it's at least a pretty solid punch: Beat Saber, "the Guitar Hero meets light sabers... in VR!" indie game, is now by far the most popular solo VR title on Steam, beating out high profile, "explore a whole world in VR" offerings like Skyrim and Fallout 4. (A similar pattern to another unique indie game, SuperHot, also selling more copies than those two Bethesda offerings.) Overall usage rates for VR games are still tiny in general (as you can see from the top titles above), but it wouldn't the worst future for virtual reality if it mainly became the provenance of cool, creative low-budget indie titles like Beat Saber and SuperHot. For the immediate future, at least, that's probably the most the market can bear.
Oh BTW, here's Beat Saber gameplay footage below, but it's already gone so viral, you've probably seen it already:
Perfect combination of "That looks fun to play" and "That looks easy to play right now" and "That even looks fun to watch" appeal that make most casual games become huge hits.
Hat tip: /Vive, where an interesting conversation over the game has ensued.
