Setsuna Murakami's KKW-inspired avatar
The Second Life community is still abuzz that Kim Kardashian is using SL avatars to promote her brands on social meda. (Second Life the actual company finally noticed). However, many have pointed out that the avatar she's using looks a bit more like Cher, than Kim. (Not that there's anything wrong that!)
For my money, Setsuna Murakami's Kardashian-inspired avatar (above) is closer in spirit to Kardashian Herself. So close, in fact, that Setsuna was reluctant to tell me how she crafted her; however, she did give me some hints:
The base is Catwa, an extremely popular avatar template; but, Murakami tells me, "All the components are from different stores -- skin, eyes, makeup, hairbase."
The real key to Kim, she says, is something else:
"The makeup is what makes the look. Without it she wouldn't be Kim." She says that was difficult to find, among the hundreds of virtual make-up varieties in SL, the one that truly captured Kim. But that also meant looking at countless Kim Kardashian photos to find those that were most genuine, so to speak.
"I studied a lot of pictures on Kim's makeup to kind of narrow down who Kim is and what she looks like," as Setsuna puts it. "If you look at a lot of her pictures, there are times when Kim doesn't even look like herself."
Emphasis mine, because it bears emphasizing: As a social media presence, "Kim Kardashian" is as almost as much an avatar as digital versions of her in IMVU, Second Life, and her emoji app -- and is distinctly different from Kim Kardashian the physical person. And that was the key to Setsuna Murakami's version of her own SL avatar:
"I started picking up patterns or pics that were easy to associate with her, then I went to a lot of makeup stores in SL, picking up demos for eyeshadows and lipsticks 'till I started narrowing them down. I did use a lot of her first wedding pics for examples. Her makeup in those pictures was gorgeous."
So if Kim Kardashian is searching for a virtual makeover, or a version of herself which resembles who she genuinely is on social media, she may want to message Ms. Murakami.
