Kudos to NWN partner Sinespace for this great coverage by Dean Takahashi on VentureBeat:
Sinespace is billing itself as a massively multiplayer online sandbox world in VR, and the company is launching what it calls a Certified Creators program to try to boost the creation of user-generated content in Sinespace. It hopes that it can stand out from others because its technology won’t be “pinned in time,” but rather will change with the times as graphics and other technologies move forward.
“We are trying to build a virtual world that is future proof [says founder Adam Frisby]. "The goal of what we are doing is to make it accessible to everyone."... He said that the company’s monthly active users grew from 10,000 in June to more than 15,000 in August. And Sinespace players are also buying more content from creators, with the average revenue per paying user (ARPPU) in August hitting $20 a month, up from $17 a month in June.
More about the Certified Creators program and its special advantages on Sinespace's blog. Highlight:
We are launching this program to reflect our trust in Sinespace developers to continue growing Sinespace with great, fresh content which respects the rights of creators everywhere. We’re humbled and excited to already count hundreds of people who create and regularly upload their content to our world - they come from everywhere: successful 3D artists from other virtual worlds, developers who got their start in Sinespace or Unity3D, members of the game industry who want a showcase and market for their individual talent, and beyond... Access to these programs is by invitation, but we are on the lookout for new creators to add to the ranks every day. What we're looking for is a consistent demonstration of the following;
- Commitment to producing content that does not run afoul of others rights.
- A track record of complying with the resource limits we place on items such as clothing
- Honourable behaviour when interacting with reviewers, customers and other platform users.
... [B]esides self-review options - both grades of [certified] creators will get a few added perks:
-
First you'll get access to unique inworld titles
-
You'll also get the right to use a special partner logo on your websites and promotional imagery that indicates our recognition of your consistent high quality. You can even use it as a badge in other marketplaces if you want.
-
We will also allowing the marketplace search to filter by certification grade in a future update.
Much more here. If you have questions about the program for Adam and team, post in Comments below and I'll nudge them. Alternately, join Sinespace's Discord server or email them directly at [email protected]..
A controlled Certified Creators program is in direct opposition to what made SL so great. The open world organic nature of creation from everyone without a vetting process or need for special privilege.
Instead of segregating the users into the privileged and non, why not get on the phone with some marketing firms and work out a pre-emptive prosumer licensing system whereby those IPs are pre-approved under set conditions?
Otherwise, you're putting complying content creators at a disadvantage versus people who are just doing whatever the hell they want.
Meet in the middle, properly.
