Fortnite! It's the most popular multi-user game in the world, and while it has always had some virtual world-esque aspects, the new Fortnite Creative mode makes it very much a persistent virtual world:
It’s a brand new way to experience the world of Fortnite, available on December 6. Design games, race around the island, battle your friends in new ways and build your dream Fortnite. It’s all happening on your own private island where everything you make is saved.
Also notable that the video above emphasizes Fortnite's potential as a machinima platform. And while a private island in Second Life costs you some $250 a month, the cost of your own private island in Fortnite is... (drum roll please):
You must buy the Season 7 Battle Pass, however, if you want to try Creative mode. Due to Season 6's lackluster battle pass, chock full of crap that I did not want to earn (I still put in a few hours last weekend to grind out the 100 tiers,) I wasn't sure I would invest in Season 7. I will absolutely fork over the 950 v-bucks (approximately $10 USD) now.
Yes: 10 damn dollars. It's a great move which will surely be a success. And once again, makes one think of where Second Life went wrong back in 2004-2006 or so, when it was still explicitly a social game with quite a lot of combat gamers: Instead of continuing to emphasize competitive fun and games, the virtual world became platform (albeit one with stagnant growth). Fortnite by contrast is following in Minecraft's path, building a fun game world first and then evolving it into a virtual world.
I think Linden Labs could learn a few lessons here!

Very obvious at this point linden lab needs better guidance or face bankruptcy.
I AM NOT A FEMINIST/SJW Leftist, but at this point we need to try something different like maybe a woman CEO (Maybe a Lisa Sue type like AMD has) get someone like her but better'.
