Cajsa sent me this image, "Tokyo Cityscape - Cold" by Peeter Tamerlane, as a companion to the Depression-era image she wrote about yesterday -- both seeming at first glance to be photos from the real world, but both actually created in Second Life, using blur and desaturation after effects to achieve that look. "It seems the more abstracted Second Life is," as she puts it, "the more real it appears." Also: "[T]his is the yin to the other picture's yang. Not in the simplistic way of opposites, but of syncretic opposites, unable to exist without the other. "
